Shortly before 1100 this morning BASICS Devon volunteer doctors where dispatched to a serious Road Traffic Collision near Totnes in Devon. Just after 1100 South Western Ambulance Service declared it as a "Major Incident".
6 of our volunteers were involved either at the scene or supporting the ambulance commanders. Dr Marc Epps responded as on Scene "Medical Advisor" along with Dr Lauren Weekes, Dr Alex Rowe, Dr Ian Higginson and Dr Tim Nutbeam. Dr Simon Scott-Hayward responded to the ambulance control room in Exeter to provide medical support.
"It was amazing to see the dedication of South Western Ambulance Service staff and all the NHS staff who came in on their day off to support patients and colleagues. There are many unrecognised heroes"
Our thoughts are with those involved and their families, we wish them a speedy recovery.
