BASICS Devon is a group of volunteer medics who help save lives in communities across rural Devon and can be at your side in minutes, day or night, and has received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes Cornwall and West Devon.

The donation is part of the housebuilder’s Community Champions initiative, which donates up to £750,000 a year to good local causes and organisations across Great Britain.

Responding to incidents at the request of the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, BASICS Devon provide an additional tier of medical support supplementing the excellent service provided by our local ambulance crews.

Since January this year, the doctors have attended 377 callouts, 95 of which were at night, arriving first on the scene at 38 per cent of those calls.

Commenting on the donation, Amie Bull, Fundraising Manager at BASICS Devon said:

“We are thrilled to have received this generous support from Persimmon Homes.

“BASICS Devon plays an important role supporting our local ambulance service when they need us most, in one of the most rural counties in Britain.

“Our volunteer medics respond in their own vehicles, anytime, anywhere in Devon. All have undertaken extensive specialist training in the complex and challenging arena of pre-hospital medical care.

“This vital funding will allow us to continue our mission to provide specialist prehospital medical care, especially reaching those that are vulnerable and isolated.

“On behalf of our medics and everyone involved at BASICS, a massive thank you to Persimmon Homes Cornwall and West Devon region.”

Jane Cartwright, Sales Director at Persimmon Homes Cornwall and West Devon, said:

“Persimmon is delighted to be able to support BASICS Devon and their incredible group of volunteers with this £1,000 donation.

“Our Community Champions initiative is all about supporting the communities and people where we build new homes, and with our ever-increasing presence in Plymouth and the wider county, we couldn’t have found a more crucial organisation.

“BASICS Devon plays an incredibly important role in the county, supporting our fantastic frontline ambulance service to help ease pain and suffering, and save lives.

“We are proud to support BASICS and their outstanding work for people and communities across Devon.”
